Sega has announced that upcoming hedgehog effort Sonic Forces will allow fans to add to the Blue Blur’s growing list of animal buddies with their own playable custom creation.
Players can create a wolf, rabbit, dog, cat, bird, bear, or hedgehog to run and jump alongside Sonic in his next big game that isn’t called Sonic Mania. Each animal variant has their own special ability: The cat holds onto a single ring after being hit, while the rabbit will remain invincible for longer after being damaged, for example.
So, as well as the old-school 2D Sonic stages, and less-desirable modern Sonic levels, it appears you’ll be able to whizz around a number of zones as a purple bird, or maroon bear.
The trailer below gives you a taste of what you can expect from the customisation tool. While Sonic Team’s representative looks like Dennis Taylor, you can fancy-up your animal in whatever way you see fit.
Sonic Forces is out later this year on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
