Activision announced that racing remake Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled will begin a Back N. Time Grand Prix event on August 2, and it’ll run until August 25.

The post on Activision’s blog detailed the fossilised features coming to the game on Friday. There’s the Prehistoric Playground track, which will ‘immerse racers in an epic world with Jurassic-sized flora, violent geysers bursting from the ground, caves with mysterious wall-paintings, and of course, giant dinosaurs roaming the land.’

The Nitro Gauge is filled with 18 new rewards such as the Mammoth Karts, Cave Painting stickers, and the ‘Fake’ Baby T. skin for those players who reach the pinnacle of the Gold Tier. The Pit Stop stock will be refreshed with new characters and skins like Baby Crash and Baby Coco, along with Caveman Zem and Mad Scientist Ripper Roo. And for the cream of the karting crop, a swish Champion Kart and Signature Decal is attainable for players finishing in the top five per cent of the Grand Prix Leaderboards.

Since launch, you’ve been able to spend the Wumpa Coins you’ve picked up in Crash Team Racing’s different modes at the Pit Stop, but now Activision is offering a shortcut. As stated in the blog post, Wumpa Coin bundles will be introduced as a microtransaction. The publisher, probably expecting backlash, said that ‘this option won’t change the game’s core mechanics – players will still earn Wumpa Coins by playing the game in any mode, just as before. They will just be able to purchase additional coins if they choose.’

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Josh agonised over nostalgia about developer Beenox’s recreation of Naughty Dog’s classic, but still thought it was pretty fun.
