Activision still owns the Crash Bandicoot license, the publisher has confirmed, despite rumours to the contrary last week.
Rumours that Sony had re-acquired the rights to the classic platforming IP emerged last week after an image of Crash appeared in an advert for PlayStation 4 and all reference to the character was removed on Activision’s website.
Activision UK also provided VideoGamer.com with a “no comment” when asked on Friday whether it still held the rights to the license.
But in a statement provided to Game Informer over the weekend, Activision said that it still “owns Crash Bandicoot and we continue to explore ways in which we could bring the beloved series back to life.”
The Crash Bandicoot license was acquired by Activision in 2008 after absorbing Sierra Entertainment. It originally started life under Sony where it was Naughty Dog’s first major hit.
The latest Crash Bandicoot game, Crash: Mind Over Mutant, released in 2008 to a mixed reception from critics.
