Speaking with MTV, Jones has revealed his struggle in selling Crackdown to gamers, noting that the “game does not look good in screenshots.” It’s only when gamers see Crackdown in action that they get its appeal.

Speaking of the unusual marketing gimmick to include Halo 3 beta entry with copies of Crackdown, Jones acknowledged its benefits in terms of pushing the game into the hands of gamers who might have otherwise left the game on store shelves.

We kind of knew ‘Crackdown’ would need as much help as it could get to get into players’ hands,” Jones said. “Like we’ve always said: It’s a game player’s game. It’s not something that’s going to sell in screenshot. So that was good.

Jones also revealed that he and his team wanted Crackdown to include a whopping 200 Achievements to give gamers plenty to work towards. However, despite his best efforts, Jones was only able to gain an extra 30 Achievements, bringing the game’s total to 80. The previous limit set by Microsoft was 50 Achievements.

Crackdown is scheduled for release across Europe for the Xbox 360 on February 23.
