Cooking Mama: Coming Home to Mama will launch on Nintendo Switch this autumn, as revealed by a since-deleted press release from publisher Planet Digital Partners (thanks, Kotaku).

Ratings for Cooking Mama: Cookstar in Australia and Germany were spied last week, so it’s likely that this title will be the European release of the same game. New to this entry and to the series is the ‘Vegetarian’ mode, so ‘players who do not wish to prepare meals with meat ingredients will be able to cook creative, alternate meatless recipes’. But if the sight of a Brussels sprout makes you squeal, there’s the ‘Traditional’ mode for the carnivores in the crowd.

The game will take advantage of the Switch motion controls ‘for an immersive meal prep and cooking experience’; here’s hoping the Joy-Con drift issue is rustled up by the time the leaves turn brown. Cooking Mama will also introduce blockchain technology for a number of game features.

Each copy of the game will possess a unique ID, which will allow players to ‘change expression algorithms for characters, ingredients and cooking methods.’ Moreover, there will be a reward system that is potentially based on its multiplayer capabilities. Players will earn ‘in-game currency (or points, experience, and other items) or earn recognition and certificates’ from mini-games, tournaments and promotional events. Finally, private keys on blockchain protocols will take effective measures against cheating and duplicating game keys.

In response to this news, my mind instantly started concocting Gordon Ramsay and Cooking Mama mashup memes. But, these worlds were never meant to meet. Mama would never call anyone an ‘idiot sandwich’.
