Concord’s open beta just launched and it’s already bombed. With just 1,100 people playing it on Steam, it doesn’t look that great for PlayStation’s new live-service hero shooter.

With data provided by SteamCharts, the open beta peaked at 2,300 players last night. Its trajectory looks like it’s going to be headed on the up, though I can’t imagine it’s going to break any devastating figures. To add onto that, I think a good portion of this is down to the lacklustre marketing campaign the game has seen. Whether this down to an innate lack of interest in yet another entry to the saturated live-service hero shooter market, or whether PlayStation themselves are disinterested.

Unfortunately, we can’t evaluate the player count on PlayStation, so we can’t comment on whether or not it’s performing well on console. With the open beta not costing anything to try out, it’s especially worrying. When Concord does launch with its AAA price-tag, I can imagine it’s going to be even more disappointing for PlayStation.

Players have noted that “this game is ROUGH on PC,” while others have brought up the fact that “matches are over before they even start.” We’re in the midst of working on our preview of the game, which we will have with you before the open beta is finished.

Dungeonborne launched today, entirely for free, and is currently sitting at 30,000 players on Steam. Similarly, Amazon’s Throne and Liberty launching into its open beta recently with a similar player-count. With the focus clearly on other games, it’s hard to see how Concord is going to make up the lost figures. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m not necessarily disappointed if another live-service game disappears quietly.

It looks like Concord is destined for a fate similar to its aeroplane counterpart; not long for this world.
