DICE, creator of the Battlefield franchise, has warned rivals that with Battlefield 3 the studio is pushing the FPS genre forward at a time when the competition is getting “lazy”.
“Our competitors are getting lazy,” DICE general manager, Karl-Magnus Troedsson, told OPM. “They’re using the same engine, the same recipe for building a game. At some point you need to take that leap. I haven’t seen them take that leap since a long time ago.
“We are doing that now. They had better watch out. We are coming for them.”
Battlefield 3 will be released later this year, likely in close vicinity to Activation’s next instalment in the Call of Duty franchise.
Battlefield 3 has generated a great deal of buzz after a hugely impressive gameplay demonstration which came out of GDC earlier this month.
While we’re certain Call of Duty won’t fall from its lofty perch in such a dramatic fashion that Battlefield 3 can swoop in and take its place, there is certainly a feeling that the balance of power is going to shift.
