Race Driver: Grid players have been reporting a stuttering problem, said to be severely hampering enjoyment of the excellent game. It doesn’t appear to be an issue for all players, but it’s certainly widespread enough to generate a lot of posts on the game’s official forum.
Grid executive producer Gavin Raeburn posted on the forum in response to gamers seeking help.
“We’re close to getting to the root of the problem and we will be including a fix and a backup workaround option (just in case) in our forthcoming patch due within the next few weeks or sooner,” said Raeburn. “We think the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks /sectors.
“The best temporary measure is to copy your gamertag to a mem card, remove the hard drive and run the game that way. Replays and caching will be disabled, though instant replay will still work as this caches to memory.”
Obviously this isn’t ideal – the replays are great – but at least it means gamers can play without experiencing problems. There are also some reports of separate issues on PS3 and PC, although currently not as common.
