Codemasters has today announced Race Driver: GRID as the official title for its multi-disciplined racing game previously under the working title Race Driver One.

In development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Race Driver: GRID promises to deliver beautifully realised and dramatic race locations over three continents, all created using an updated version of the DiRT engine.

“Race Driver: GRID is all about the race,” said Gavin Raeburn, Executive Producer at Codemasters Studios. “The next iteration of our DiRT engine combined with a decade of experience in developing driving games enables us to put the player at the centre of the action like never before. Damage, packed grids, intelligent opposition and unprecedented race day atmosphere will combine to deliver an experience like no other.”

The game will go beyond the normal championship races, expanding into street racing in San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit. Gamers are also promised Drift Racing events, some which operate on the fringes of legality in the back streets of Yokohama.

Race Driver: GRID is scheduled for release in mid 2008.
