Codemasters has the rights to the F1 license for “one more year”, game designer Steven Embling has confirmed, allowing the company time to develop one more F1 title following the release of this summer’s F1 2015.

After that, the publisher intends to renew the licensing agreement with the Formula One Group.

“We have [the license for] one more year,” Embling told VideoGamer.com earlier this month, “so we can release a title [after F1 2015] and then I believe the intention is to renew the contract after that.”

Codemasters has yet to formally announce plans for F1 beyond this year’s F1 2015 but, given Embling’s comments, you can probably expect to see F1 2016 arrive roughly 12 months later.

F1 2015 is due to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 12. Codemasters currently doesn’t have any plans to release future F1 titles on Xbox 360 or PS3.
