In the ongoing battle between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, it seems even seemingly safe fan sites aren’t what they appear to be. The website ModernWarfare3.com currently redirects visitors to the official Battlefield 3 website.
While the site is no longer viewable due to the redirection taking place, Kotaku reports that it was previously filled with anti Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 material.
There’s currently no suggestion that publisher EA is behind the redirection, with the domain having been registered by an anonymous owner through Domains by Proxy – a service that keeps the owner’s details private.
Analyst Michael Pachter already thinks that Call of Duty players might defect to Battlefield 3 due to stat tracking service Call of Duty: Elite.
