The developers of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 are “starting to think and work on the next real game,” and they have promised fans that it’s “crazy” and true to the studio’s “DNA”. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has been an absolute marvel, and it is arguably the favorite to sweep many Game of the Year awards while also seeking an historic Grammy nomination for its beautiful soundtrack. The entire industry has heaped praise on the game, and Sandfall have vowed that Expedition 33 is “not the end” of the franchise. While we don’t know what’s coming, Sandfall are beginning to work on their next project.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 devloper “starting to work on next game”

PCGamesN recently spoke with Sandfall Interactive CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche, as well as COO and producer Francois Meurisse. During this chat, Broche reiterated from previous interviews that “Expedition 33 is just one of the stories that we want to tell in the Clair Obscur universe”.

Sandfall are continuing to work on Expedition 33, and “in the coming months” they are delivering an update with lots of free content to thank players and celebrate the achievement of five million sales. While work on Expedition 33 continues, the studio is thinking about their next project.

Broche told PCGamesN, “We are starting to think and work on the next real game, which is super exciting, and we have a lot of very good ideas.” Broche assured fans Sandfall “don’t plan to grow too much” as they “want to remain very small and agile with a strong creative vision and a game that feels very unique and artsy”. This approach to making games is regarded as the studio’s “DNA”.

Lastly, while not sharing anything specific about the next game, Broche said, “We want to make stories like an art house, making crazy projects because we want to make them, and that’s the philosophy we want to stick by – especially now because we have so much attention and so much love from the players. We really don’t want to betray that and just do stupid stuff. We know now how to make games that are good with a smaller team and a really strong vision, and that’s what we want to do again”.

We cannot wait to see what’s next from Sandfall Interactive. Don’t expect to see their next game anytime soon, but Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has put Sandfall on the map and their next project will definitely be met with a lot of heavy anticipation. With the next project set to take place within a Clair Obscur universe, don’t expect a direct sequel to Expedition 33 but rather an approach similar to Final Fantasy.

In other Expedition 33 news, the lead writer has confirmed there is “no correct canon ending,” and Hideo Kojima has previously said he believes Sandfall have the perfect development team size.
