Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has not only been praised for its brilliant narrative and exhilarating combat, but also for its amazing performances from Andy Serkis, Jennifer English and, of course, Daredevil star Charlie Cox.

In the primary role of Gustave, Cox’s performance in the new AA video game has been a highlight for many fans. However, the actor recently revealed that he feels “like a total fraud” as he recorded most of his lines over a single day.

Charlie Cox on Clair Obscur

Speaking to fans at the Washington State Summer Con, Cox was asked about his role in the new turn-based RPG. The actor, known for his work on Daredevil, explained that he is “not a gamer” and had no idea the game would be as successful as it is.

“Just very, very quickly, and I don’t mean to minimise it in any way, and it’s so cool,” Cox said. “Apparently the game is awesome. I’m not a gamer. I have no idea, I haven’t played it.”

The actor explained that he didn’t actually spend all that much time recording for the game. While some performances may have taken significantly longer, Cox’s role as Gustave was wrapped up fairly quickly which is surprising given the quality of his performance.

“My agent asked me if I wanted to go and do a voice-over,” he said. “I was in the studio for four hours, maybe. And people keep saying how amazing it is and congratulations, and I feel like an absolute fraud.”

Cox added that he’s “so thrilled” for developer Sandfall Interactive who has made its first big splash on the games industry with its Game of the Year-worthy turn-based adventure.

“I’m so thrilled for the company, I’m thrilled it did really well,” the actor explained.

While Sandfall Interactive is already toiling away on ideas for its next game, the studio isn’t done with Expedition 33 just yet. In fact, the developer recently announced that more post-launch content is coming to the game in the near future which is very exciting.
