2K Games has unveiled the Civilization V: Gods & Kings expansion. It will be available this spring for PC, and will give Civilization V owners nine new civilizations, three original scenarios, 27 new units, 13 new buildings, and nine new wonders.

Four of the nine new civilizations were announced: Carthage, the Netherlands, the Celts and the Mayans. Each has unique traits, units and buildings.

There are also nine new leaders, with the four announced civilizations getting William I, Prince of Orange, Boudicca and Pacal the Great.

Oh, and religion is back. You get a Pantheon of the Gods and create Great Prophets to spread religion across the world. Espionage also makes a return, unlocking itself as you enter the Renaissance period.

Three new scenarios let gamers experience the medieval period, the fall of Rome, and embark on a new adventure in Empires of the Smoky Skies, a Victorian science-fiction scenario.

“You can still get lost in the details, basically, despite the simpler focus – and that’s exactly how Civilization should be. It’s still more than potent enough to make me forget about meals and, on one occasion, to could skip showering in exchange for another half an hour of playtime. I’m ashamed of myself,” I wrote about in my 9/10 Civilization V review.
