Colossal Order’s big city-building follow-up installment in Cities Skylines 2 has finally launched on PC, though the initial reception has largely been less than ideal. Many had initially been looking forward to creating the metropolis of their dreams in-game. However, these fantasies were immediately quashed following reports of game-breaking performance issues that left players unable to make a sprawling hub, let alone start a new game.
Now, CO’s city-building series isn’t exactly known for its graphical demands, as the Cities Skylines 2 system requirements prove that it isn’t meant to compete with other visually arresting creations like Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2. But even though the minimum specs required to run the game are much less than the aforementioned projects, it hasn’t stopped players from continuously reporting several frustrating instances of Cities Skylines 2 stuttering.
Naturally, these endless waves of complaints prompted the developers to do damage control by answering numerous questions from several disgruntled players. Though many were still left unsatisfied by the game’s current status, some, like Redditor bigeyez, ended up praising Colossal Order for their transparency in addressing these issues.
In their post addressed to the Cities Skylines 2 creator, bigeyez said: “In today’s game industry, it’s rare that a developer is up front with some huge faults [that] their game [has], and if CO was like some other studios, they could have tried to hide the performance issues until launch and then come out with a trite “I’m sorry” PR statement.” Instead, Colossal Order’s proactiveness in finding a solution for these ongoing problems has gained the respect of a few fans, which only helps them in the long run.
Alas, most within the city-building simulator’s community will remain frustrated until the developers employ a lasting fix. So, while you wait for CO to do just that, check out our guides on how to connect power lines, how to rotate objects, and the natural disasters list in Cities Skylines 2.
