The constantly troubles Cities Skylines 2 has received a new update for its console release date. Following an extremely rocky launch rife with performance issues, the new city builder’s console launch was indefinitely delayed to address key problems, but fans will have to wait a while longer.

In a recent developer update, Colossal Order revealed that the Cities Skylines 2 console release definitely won’t “release before summer” as the troublesome port faces additional development needs.

Shared in a recent Steam blog post, the developers explained that the team is continuing to “make steady progress on the console version”, but it won’t be finished anytime soon.

“Our core focus has been on further improving performance and stability,” the developers explained. “However, despite these advancements, we have more things we need to address before we reach the level of quality and the experience we want for you as our players.”

The team explained that the game definitely won’t release anytime before the summer period, and there’s still no official release window for the game’s console port. However, if the game releases this year, it will either be sometime in Autumn or Winter.

“We know many of you are eagerly awaiting the console release, but to set expectations clearly: we will not have a release before summer,” the developers explained. “We want to avoid any premature estimates and instead commit to providing you with reliable information when we’re closer to a launch-ready state. Our goal remains unchanged: to bring Cities: Skylines II to console in the best possible shape.”

Cities Skylines 2 has been met with mixed reviews since launch. While the game does have some areas of improvement over the original, it’s poor performance, high number of bugs, and countless other issues make it an unsatisfying follow-up. Nevertheless, it has a solid foundation that should continue to be improved.
