Square Enix has today announced plans to release a revamped version of its 1995 SNES classic RPG, Chrono Trigger, for Nintendo DS this holiday in North America. There’s currently no word on a European release.

When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, Chrono must travel through time to rescue his companion. It’s soon revealed that an evil force is out to destroy the world and Chrono is in a race against time to change the course of history.

The original game will be carried across to the DS intact so gamers can expect an engaging storyline, which leads to multiple conclusions, and a unique battle system which combines an active battle system with Tech skills.

The in development version for Nintendo DS is being revamped with dual-screen presentation and touch screen functionality. The game will also feature a brand new dungeon and wireless play, said to bring a new dimension to the classic RPG.

With the game scheduled for release later this year we can expect to hear plenty more on Chrono Trigger for Nintendo DS over the coming months.
