Square Enix has today announced that Chrono Trigger on Nintendo DS is to be released across Europe and PAL territories early in 2009.

The game was originally released in 1995 for the SNES and is regarded as an all-time classic, but was never available in PAL territories.

“It gives me great pleasure to see Chrono Trigger being released in Europe and the PAL territories,” said John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix. “With its ground breaking story and gameplay, this epic RPG with multiple endings has already won the hearts of many fans and I hope it delights a whole new audience of players into revisiting the Chrono Trigger world time and again.”

The DS version will maintain the story of the original game, but is being revamped with dual-screen presentation and touch screen functionally. The game will also feature a brand new dungeon and wireless play, said to bring a new dimension to the classic RPG.
