We recently reported that a Chinese man was killed for selling a virtual sword in the online game Legend of Mir 3. Zhu Caoyuan was attacked by Qui Chengwei after he broke into the man’s house. Chengwei has now been given a suspended death sentence.

The parents of Caoyuan were understandably upset. His father, Zhu Huimin said: “My son was only 26 when he died. He was sleeping when Qiu broke into his home. He was barely able to put his pants on before Qiu stabbed him.”

Chengwei may face life in prison for the attack. Caoyuan sold the virtual sword to another Legend of Mir gamer while he had possession of the sword that he had borrowed from Chengwei. The situation went out of control after the dispute was dismissed by the police because no laws exist to protect virtual property.
