Eidos has announced that the long awaited next instalment to the Championship Manager series is to be released in the UK on March 18th 2005, with the game releasing internationally on April 1st 2005. Playstation 2 and Xbox versions of the game are due in spring 2005.

Originally set for a release late in 20004, the game has seen a number of delays, but this appears to be the final release date. How such a late release will affect sales remains to be seen, but by mid March the football season will be wrapping up; not an ideal time to release the game then.

Brand name recognition alone should give the game solid sales, and being the first game since Sports Interactive split form the series, fans are bound to be interested in how the game has faired under a new development team.

In related news, Eidos has announced that Championship Manager online is now… well… online. The online version of the game was launched yesterday, allowing you to play online against other real life managers, in a world where each player and team only exist once. For more information on the game co-developed by Jadestone and Beautiful Game Studios, you can do worse than check out the official website. It has all the information you need about the game and details on the subscription required to play.

We’ll have more on Championship Manager 5 in the coming weeks.
