Capcom has said that the success of Monster Hunter XX on the Switch will help them evaluate how it will support the platform in future. This news follows Capcom’s announcement earlier this week that it’s ‘starting to prepare’ more games for the Switch. Now that the investor report has been made public, more light has been shed on Capcom’s plans for the future.

It has previously stated that sales of Ultra Street Fighter II on the Switch would influence whether the game would be ported to other systems. So far the game has sold 450,000 units worldwide. I’m not a betting man, but I’d put money on Ultra Street Fighter II being ported to every other platform now.

Capcom has changed tack, however, and is now saying that future titles and platform support will be dictated by the reception to Monster Hunter XX.

In its investor report, Capcom stated that, ‘The Nintendo Switch seems to be doing very well, and we look forward to further growth in its install base. Beginning with Monster Hunter XX Nintendo Switch Ver. for Japan, we are evaluating how we will support this platform in the future’.  This is a bit of an unnecessary ultimatum, because it’s reasonably safe to assume that the game will sell like hotcakes in Japan. The question is not if the game will be a success, but will anyone be able to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch to actually play the game?
