Part of their preparation includes asking questions about the requirements needed to join the pre-release phase. PlayStation users in particular now want to know whether or not a PS Plus subscription is required in order to join in. Worry not Sony loyalists because we’re here to answer

Will you be able to play Diablo 4 beta without PS Plus?

According to Battle.net support, you will not need PS Plus to play the Diablo 4 Open Beta or Early Access Open Beta “in most regions”.

“A Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus subscription will not be required to play Diablo IV during the Open Beta or Early Access weekends in most regions.”

The only exception to this rule will be Germany, as a subscription is required due to ratings requirements for the game. However, the story is different for the full version of Diablo 4 once it launches in June.

Will you be able to play the full Diablo 4 game without PS Plus?

Unfortunately, it seems you will not be able to play through the full Diablo 4 release without PS Plus. Labels placed on the game’s PlayStation Store page are stating that online play will be a requirement upon its release, which is only accessible with a subscription to the Sony service.

The good news, though, is that there will be cross-play functionality, which means you and your friends won’t need to all be on the same system.

A post on Reddit has also confirmed this fact so far with a Blizzard support representative stating that PS Plus will be required for both online and couch co-op sessions. Reaction to this news has been mixed so far as many are complaining that a subscription shouldn’t be required for local play. Some, however, are much more optimistic as a few players believe that this may deter users from installing absurd mods that make the game frustrating to play.

Naturally, this will also mean that those on Xbox will similarly require a subscription to their own online service in Xbox Live Gold. Even if you only plan on playing through the game by yourself, you will still have to be subscribed as the game cannot be played offline. Fortunately, PC users will not need to pay for any service just to join up with others.
