James Cameron has revealed a few details for Ubisoft’s 3D Avatar game, the playable tie in to the director’s new sci-fi epic.

Avatar’s story is set in the 22nd century on the moon of Pandora – an Earth-like place that features lush rainforest and 1000ft high trees. Like the film, Ubisoft’s game will be a stereoscopic 3D experience, but will tell a different story with a separate set of characters. Players will be able to play missions from a human perspective, or as one of the Na’avi – 10ft tall blue aliens who fight with bows and arrows.

Cameron added that the game will in some ways be “far richer” than the highly anticipated film. Unfortunately Ubisoft declined to show any footage of the game during today’s press conference, but E3 attendees should get a chance to play it over the next three days.

Ubisoft says it has contributed over 100 shots to the new film, which is due for release on Dec 18. The videogame will be released at some point prior to this, although no concrete date has been mentioned yet.
