Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward creative strategist, has said he’ll be buying a copy of Battlefield 3 – and he can’t see why any dedicated shooter fan wouldn’t want to pick up both.

“I’m very aware that we have two very different audiences and we’re delivering two very good and very different experiences,” said Bowling to Eurogamer.

When asked if he was going to purchase a copy of Battlefield 3 in October, Bowling replied “I am.” He made no indication if he’d be picking up the PC or console version, however.

Bowling says the extremely vocal furore surrounding the release of both titles – two of the most anticipated games of the year – is down to passionate communities for each game.

“I think the baiting is built up more of these two really passionate communities – and they should be really passionate about their individual games – getting at each other, and that’s been happening forever,” he added.

Does Bowling think the town of gaming is big enough for the both of them – that gamers could do the seemingly unthinkable and enjoy both Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3? “I think there is definitely room. If you are a shooter fan, you should be getting both, because they’re both going to be excellent experiences,” he said.

“But more importantly they’re going to be very different experiences. The kind of gameplay you get from Call of Duty is very different from what you get anywhere else and I think that’s important. I think any shooter fan would be extremely disappointed if you only got one.”

What about the frequent public ribbings from Battlefield publisher EA – does that make Activision and Infinity Ward down in the dumps? It “doesn’t really get to us,” says Bowling.

If you’re still undecided – perhaps you’re not buying both – then maybe our latest Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 previews will help make up your mind.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on November 8. Battlefield 3 will make its debut on the same platforms a couple of weeks earlier, on October 28.
