Call of Duty has notched up a staggering 10 years as the best-selling console franchise in North America, the NPD Group has revealed (via GameSpot).

Series publisher Activision is obviously pretty chuffed at the milestone, and posted a message on its blog expressing its thanks to 'the most amazing fans in the world.' Aww.

'We've been honored over these past 10 years to see the community come together, showcasing some truly incredible moments,' said Activision. 'Whether it's jaw-dropping skills, frenetic clips or just some funny experiences, we're honored to serve the most passionate community around.'

Infinity Ward is working on this year's entry in the Call of Duty franchise, which is rumoured to be Modern Warfare 4. Nothing official has been confirmed at this point, however.

Last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was a major shift for the series with its introduction of battle royale mode (at the expense of a single-player campaign), and Josh thought it was a move that ultimately paid off.
