Call of Duty convention set for September

Activision has announced Call of Duty XP, a new Call of Duty convention taking place September 2-3 in LA.

The two-day event will be home to more than 6,000 fans who will see the world premiere of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer and be able to take part in a range of events and activities.

“Call of Duty XP is the ultimate Call of Duty event for fans of all levels,” said Activision. “This two-day total Call of Duty immersion is coming to a secure compound in the urban confines of LA on Labor Day weekend where more than 6,000 fans will be the first to witness the world premiere of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer.

“Attendees will be among the first to have the opportunity to get hands-on time with multiplayer and Spec Ops. Also on display for the first time will be the full feature set functionality of Call of Duty Elite, the innovative new online service built from the ground up to support Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Supporting this epic reveal is a series of real-world Call of Duty action-experiences and gaming competitions as well as an unprecedented $1 million dollar Call of Duty tournament by Activision and the event’s lead sponsor Microsoft Xbox 360.”

Tickets for the event are priced $150 for complete access over the two days, and will go on sale Tuesday, July 19. Exact timing will be announced on July 12. 100 per cent of ticket sales will go to the Call of Duty Endowment a non-profit organisation which seeks to help veterans find work and establish careers as they transition back to civilian life.

Activities include:

• Witness the epic reveal of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer during the opening ceremony, then be one of the first to play the game!
• It’s time to compete for a chance to play on the world’s biggest stage at Call of DutyXP and walk away with your share of one million dollars in cash and prizes
• How well do you know Scrapyard? Find out as you throw down in an all-out paintball battle in our life-size recreation of this iconic map from Modern Warfare 2.
• Working out your trigger finger really works up an appetite. So grab burgers and fries at Burger Town. It’s time to eat like a soldier, sort of.
• You’ve seen them in game. Now it’s time to see the wide arsenal first hand. The immortal weaponry of Call of Duty will be on display at our one-of-a-kind armoury along with a unique look at the history of our franchise.

It was inevitable I guess, but Call of Duty XP doesn’t have the same ring to it as CODCon.
