Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will feature the series' ubiquitous Zombies mode, as well as revealing it's poured a boatload of resources into the PC version of the upcoming first-person shooter.

As far as Zombies go that's literally all that we know so far: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will have zombies. Expect copious amounts of shambling undead, claret flying about all over the place, and a barmy storyline possibly complemented by a lineup of cinematic horror legends. Maybe.

Elsewhere, Activision big cheese Coddy Johnson revealed during its recent Q1 earnings call (via Seeking Alpha) that the Black Ops series has notched up some 200 million players in the past eight years, who have in turn played billions of hours worth of matches. And from the sound of things, it's taking special care to ensure the PC version of Black Ops 4 is tip-top.

'And it's a most important last point, which is that this is a game that's not going to just build on our strengths. It will continue to push the envelope in innovation,' Johnson said. 'You'll see that in the core game itself, where we have a number of new exciting developments to roll out very soon, but also in the game's appeal on growth platforms like PC, where we've invested significant dedicated resources and design time to make sure we can deliver a great PC game to serve that community.'

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be released on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 12, with a full reveal coming on May 17. There's rumours that the game will eschew a traditional campaign in favour of a Battle Royale mode, although nothing official has been confirmed yet.
