UPDATE: Activision has officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is in development at Treyarch with a full release due later this year.

“After working in the shadows, the team at Treyarch returns this year with Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” communications manager Scott Lowe said on the Activision Blog. “There’s so much to talk about and I’m sure you all have plenty of questions, but the good news is you won’t have to wait long for answers-the world reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops III is set for Sunday, April 26, so stay tuned for details.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be revealed on Sunday, April 26, Activision has teased.

The upcoming shooter was hinted at in a new 60-second video released this evening titled ‘Back In Black’, which features multiple references to earlier games in the Black Ops series.

Audio clips from previous games can be heard in the video as the camera tracks over what appears to be a digitised version of the original Black Ops box art.

The video then ends with the number ‘III’ appearing in Roman numerals, before teasing a worldwide reveal later this month.

Activision has yet to formally name this year’s Call of Duty but has confirmed it’s in development at Treyarch under a new 3-year development cycle.

The publisher has said that it expects the title to be “one of [its] best games yet”.

Expect much more on Black Ops 3 later this month.
