Call of Duty: Black Ops II will boast a number of visual enhancements over previous games in the franchise, but developer Treyarch will not sacrifice the fluidity of 60 frames per second visuals, reports Activision blogger Dan Amrich.
Attending a Black Ops II presentation for select press, Amrich got first hand info on the technical upgrades we can expect for the sequel.
Dan Bunting, director of online, showed graphical techniques Treyarch has been working on, using an unpopulated level on Socotra Island in Yemen to highlight HDR lighting, bounce lighting and self-shadowing. There’s also a new texture technique called Reveal Mapping, which is claimed to offer big improvements in texture detail.
Amrich says that when the old way of texturing and the new way were shown side by side, the “differences were undeniable”.
Furthermore, PC gamers with the correct kit can look forward to some DirectX 11 bells and whistles, though these haven’t been detailed.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be released November 13. You’ll find more Black Ops II info here.
