Marathon, the first in a trilogy, was released for Mac back in 1994 and went on to achieve cult status, establishing Bungie as true innovators in the firs-person shooter genre.

Over a decade later the game is being reworked for Xbox LIVE Arcade by Freeverse, a development studio chosen because of its passion and knowledge of the original game.

Titled Marathon: Durandal, the remake features 27 single-player levels and 13 multiplayer levels with support for up to four players over Xbox LIVE or via split-screen. Halo players should feel right at home thanks to the game’s use of the much praised Halo control scheme.

The visuals have also been given a touch up and now fully support 720p and widescreen displays.

Marathon: Durandal will be released this summer at a cost of 800 Microsoft Points.
