Hoping for a big Halo announcement at E3? Consider those hopes dashed against the Rocks of Futility – because Bungie won’t be appearing at this year’s event.

“…while we’re on the subject of clarification, we won’t officially be at E3 this year,” said community manager Urk, in Bungie’s latest Weekly Update blog post.

“Remember the Band-Aid approach I talked about last week? This is what it feels like in practice. Sorry for the sting. We wanted to make sure you didn’t get whipped into a rumour-fuelled frenzy only to have your expectations unceremoniously dashed during expo week.”

The Band-Aid comment relates to the idea of delivering bad news in a swift, single hit, as mentioned last week when Urk implied that the Bungie might soon decrease the regularity of its blog updates.

The revelation will no doubt disappoint fans who were hoping for a big reveal in June. Last year Activision’s chief financial officer, Thomas Tippl, suggested to IGN that E3 might be the ideal time to show off Bungie’s new project with the publisher, but apparently this won’t be the case.

Major E3 announcements seem to be getting rarer and rarer these days. Still, news-starved Bungie lovers shouldn’t despair too much: Urk has previously stated that the studio’s “upcoming transition away from supporting Halo” will be described “in explicit detail very, very soon”.
