Following on from yesterday’s news that quite a few Destiny 2 PC players were apparently being banned for their use of third-party software. The game’s developer, Bungie, has responded clarifying that it’s banned ‘approximately 400 players’, and not the droves of players that have been reported elsewhere.

Bungie has also promised that it wouldn’t issue bans for the use of overlays or performance tools, including Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS. The developer stated that, ‘bans were applied to players who were using tools that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game.’ This is something that Bungie had previously warned would be the case, so fair do’s.

It was also revealed that the Destiny 2 client cannot automatically ban a player, and this can only happen once a member of the studio has conducted a manual investigation. Bungie said that a group of players had been banned in error, and this was not related to the use of third-party applications. The developer said that following a review of its banning process those players have since been unbanned.

Bungie’s statement on the matter certainly seems to contradict the stories of players who claim that they have been banned for using third-party applications such as Discord, Mumble, Xsplit or OBS, while playing Destiny 2.

‘We will continue to review the process we use to ensure a fun and fair game,’ said Bungie.
