Borderlands 2 will be less repetitive than its predecessor, with more interesting loot, the game’s concept designer Scott Kester has said.

“I think a lot of what we’re trying to do in this game is, from the character classes to the guns to the loot… Borderlands is really about the loot, about the mechanic of levelling up and getting new gear,” said Kester, speaking in a new 2KTV video.

“[We’re] focusing a lot more on the actual gun content creation, making those really interesting and fun… a new thing around every corner, a new loot. I think [we’re] focusing and doubling down on what our core was, designing the best characters and guns and environments we could, to make the loot as interesting as possible.”

The first showings of Borderlands 2 have focused on the increased diversity of gun types. Kester repeated this as being one ofGearbox’s main objectives, adding that the loot in the last game was too “granular”.

“The guns this time around are so much better. From a visual design standpoint they look different, they do different things.”

Borderlands 2 is due to be released late next year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
