Konami has announced that Bomberman 2, the return of Hudson Soft’s bomb-toting hero, is to be released for Nintendo DS on February 13, 2009.
The game will see the popular franchise undergo a visual make-over and the introduction of a wealth of new elements to the classic gameplay. The game will retain the familiar bomb laying mechanic, but Hudson has expanded this idea to a more open play area.
Players will also be charged with completing set missions within the ever-decreasing time limit. These include destroying a set number of blocks, escaping from a level and blowing up specific energy cores. Boss battles also return, pushing player’s bombing skills to the limit.
Bomberman himself will also be customisable, with players able to change his appearance and capabilities as new items become available. And what would a Bomberman game be without multiplayer? A four-player versus mode will be available via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and up to eight players will be able to compete using a local wireless connection.
Bomberman 2 for Nintendo DS is scheduled for release on February 13, 2009.
