Highly anticipated anime MMO Blue Protocol won’t be making its Western debut after all. Hyped alongside games like New World, the Amazon-published multiplayer RPG is being shut down in its entirety before making its way to English players.
Blue Protocol killed before release
Already live in Japan, Blue Protocol was a hotly anticipated release in America and Europe. In a surprise turn of events, the Bandai Namco-developed MMO will be closing down early next year.
In a press release, Bandai Namco confirmed the game’s shutdown in early 2025. For Japanese players, Blue Protocol will be discontinued on January 18, 2025.
“We have enjoyed a strong relationship with Amazon Games throughout the development of Blue Protocol, and both of our teams are disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the game to players around the world,” Bandai Namco confirmed on its website.
While the game will not be releasing in the West, the developer explained that it worked hard on the title’s localisation.
“We have worked hard to prepare for the release,” the company said. “However, we have come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to provide a service that satisfies all of you.”
A sad end
Blue Protocol was originally announced back at The Game Awards back in 2022 after starting development back in 2015. While the game has seen some large buzz from anime fans in the West, it seems the game’s Japanese release didn’t match up to expectations.
However, according to those who were able to play the game, Blue Protocol was an extremely fun take on MMOs. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to find out.
