It’s been well documented that the Xbox 360 is doing badly in Japan. In recent months the next-gen console has been shifting somewhere in the region of 1000-2000 units each week and software sales have unsurprisingly been poor.

Although some are already declaring Japan a lost cause for Microsoft and the Xbox 360, some hope does lie in Blue Dragon, one of several Xbox 360 titles coming from Japanese developer Mistwalker.

Pre-orders for the special edition Blue Dragon bundle opened yesterday and all 10,000 units were quickly snapped up. The bundle includes an Xbox 360 Core system, Blue Dragon game, an original table calendar, Blue Dragon faceplate illustrated by game artist Akira Toriyama, and a set of five miniature character figures. All this for the bargain price of 29,800 yen (£134).

According to 1UP.com, some stores sold out of their special edition allotment in a matter of minutes and reports also claim that the standard Blue Dragon bundle is also selling well.

We’ll have to wait until official numbers are released, but it appears that Blue Dragon is at last generating some interest in the Xbox 360 in Japan.
