Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has a launch trailer, which confirms that Shovel Knight is on the way as a playable character.

The game has 13 pieces of DLC, which are all free. And it has David 'Solid Snake' Hayter in it, so it must be good.

Bloodstained was originally put on Kickstarter, in 2015, and it harks back to Koji Igarashi's heyday with the Castlevania series, when he reinvented the series' gameplay and helped cement the Metroidvania template.

It represents the latest in a line Kickstarter passion projects, including the likes of Yooka-Laylee and Broken Age, which look to resurrect the joys of games gone by.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is out today on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
