Kickstarter hit Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been delayed to the first half of 2018, creator Koji Igarashi has announced. The game had previously been due in March 2017.

The major delay will help ensure the game meets Igarashi’s “quality standards”, with additional developers being brought on to finish development.

“The last thing I want to do is keep our backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can,” Igarashi said. “Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.”

“All of us on the campaign and development sides of the team are looking forward to playing the finished game as soon as we can, but as IGA says, we also want this game to be ‘done right the first time’,” an update on the game’s Kickstarter page adds.

“We’ll continue to keep you updated on the development process every step of the way… Thanks again for all you’ve done to make such an exciting project possible.”

Bloodstained gathered over $5.5m in pledges last year, making it one of the most successful games projects on Kickstarter. The game is a metroidvania-like platform RPG heading to PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PS Vita and PC.
