Blizzard is targeting September 2011 for the release of Diablo III beta, lead designer Josh Mosqueira revealed today during the developer’s gamescom press conference.

“We’d like to have it by then,” said Mosqueira.

Mike Morhaime stated on the recent Activision Blizzard conference call that the publisher is “still working hard to ship the game before the end of the year, however we are not ready to commit to a release date at this time”.

The Diablo 3 designers have also revealed a new difficulty level to be added to the game – Inferno.

Inferno will allow users of max-level 60 to fight against enemies who will be levelled at 61. Game director Jay Wilson argues that this offers further replayability, difficulty, and the option for the game to continue to expand in the future – in a way that wasn’t available in Diablo 2.

Additionally, Normal difficulty, Nightmare difficulty, and Inferno difficulty gear will differ in look and style.

During the same conference Mosqueira also revealed that Blizzard is is very, very serious about bringing Diablo III to consoles.
