Blizzard still can’t pin down a rough release date for hotly anticipated RTS StarCraft 2, co-founder Frank Pearce has admitted.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Games Convention in Leipzig, Pearce, who is also the company’s executive vice president of product development, said that the 40 strong development team “still have a lot of work to do”, specifically on the single-player campaign and improvements to online gaming service Battle.net.

Some gamers have questioned why the game’s release date is still officially TBA, given how far along recent playable builds shown at public events appear to be.

Pearce, however, said that until the single-player and Battle.net features were complete “the total package isn’t there”.

He said: “We still have a lot of work to do. Anyone that’s had the opportunity to play it at any of the shows we’ve shown it at might think wow, this feels pretty good, this feels pretty complete, so why don’t they just release it? But we still have a lot of work to do on the Battle.net side and we still have a lot of work to do on the single-player campaign side. And until that stuff is done, the total package isn’t there.

He added: “We have more work to do on those feature sets and we’re so early in the process of defining that, that we’re not even ready to talk about it publicly.”
