If you’ve ever sat through one of Blizzard’s lengthy Campfire Chats, you’re well aware of how annoying Diablo 4 announcements can be. Following the departure of general manager Rod Fergusson, Blizzard has confirmed that the unpopular announcement structure of the series is changing for good.
In a recent forum post, Diablo director of social and content marketing Adam ‘PezRadar’ Fletcher explained that Blizzard wants to make something that actually feels worth watching instead of the hours-long streams that only manage to make us fall asleep quicker.
Diablo 4 Campfire Chats are dead
In the forum post, Fletcher confirmed that there will not be the usual pre-release PTR stream for Diablo 4 Season 10. Instead, the Season 10 PTR will launch with just a blog post as the team focuses on revamping the livestream structure.
Fletcher explained that the livestreams should be back in time for the true launch of Season 10. However, these streams should be leaner, more focused and waste a lot less of our time.
It seems that the upcoming release of the next Diablo 4 expansion, which appears to be bringing back the Paladin class and returning to Westmarch, is key to the new livestream format. With more eyes than usual on the expansion livestream, whenever that happens, Blizzard will certainly want the best engagement possible.
“We have been evaluating feedback from players and internally have been wanting to revamp our livestream formats for quite a while especially as we head into next year with the new expansion,” they explained.
Something that will be lost with the transition is the direct interactions with developers. However, Blizzard urges players to join the official Sanctuary Discord server where they will still be able to ask questions directly to developers.
“On August 14, at 11 a.m. PDT, join Aislyn Hall, Charles Dunn, and Ben Fletcher in the Sanctuary Discord where they’ll be talking all things Diablo IV,” they explained. “The Sanctuary Sitdown will be hosted by Cliptis, join them here for the full conversation.”
While they offered loads of information, the Diablo 4 Campfire Chats won’t be missed. The overly long livestreams were, frankly, boring, and a new format is greatly appreciated.
