Blizzard has told VideoGamer.com that US retailer release date listings for Starcraft 2 are nothing more than “speculation and rumour”.

Excitement last night among Starcraft fans reached boiling point when a number of US retailers, including Best Buy, Circuit City and Gamestop, listed Blizzard’s game with a December 3 release date.

However, when contacted by VideoGamer.com this morning for comment, Blizzard poured cold water on the release date rumour, saying: “Blizzard don’t comment on speculation or rumour, so nothing to add at this point.”

While Blizzard’s comment is not an out and out denial, retailer release dates have been known in the past to be wrong. However, this time around the date has increased credibility given the number of retailers saying the same thing.

Interestingly, UK online retailer Play.com says the game is coming out on September 26 2008.

We hope to hear more this weekend at Blizzard’s Worldwide Invitational Event in Paris.
