Call of Duty: Black Ops II was narrowly the UK’s best-selling entertainment product of 2012, with a mere 70,000 copies separating it from EA’s FIFA 13, reports The Entertainment Retailers Association.

Black Ops 2 shifted 2.67 million copies, whereas FIFA 13 managed 2.6 million units, with both games some way ahead of the chasing pack.

Over a million units behind is the biggest-selling video title of the year, The Dark Knight Rises, and 1.2m copies off the pace was the biggest-selling album, Emeli Sande’s Our Version of Events.

However, all products fell short of 2011’s juggernaut, Adele’s 21 which sold an astonishing 3.9 million copies. The album notched up a further 816,317 copies in 2012.

The Top 40 consists of 23 video titles, ten albums and seven games.

Other games inside the Top 40 are Assassin’s Creed 3 (886,000), Halo 4 (753,000), Hitman Absolution (571,000), Just Dance 4 (562,000), and Far Cry 3 (540,000).

Era top 40 2012

2013 is off to a good start, however, with Skyfall already having sold over two million copies, already eclipsing sales of The Dark Knight Rises. It’ll be interesting to see if any of 2013’s early game releases will make it into the top sellers list for the year, with Tomb Raider currently riding high with excellent first-week sales. None of 2012’s biggest selling games launched in the first half of the year.
