Game Science has officially announced Black Myth: Zhongkui, a brand-new entry in the studio’s game of the year award-winning series. Announced at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, the new game follows a new protagonist fighting spirits across hell and earth.
Black Myth: Zhongkui officially announced
Confirmed as the second game in Game Science’s action RPG series, the new game will focus on the titular Zhongkui as the mythical being hunts spirits across two planes of existance. Additionally, Game Science confirmed that this will not be the last of its Black Myth series with more entries planned for the future.
“This single-player action role-playing game draws its primary creative inspiration from the famed Chinese folk figure “Zhong Kui’,” Game Science said. “As the project is still in early development, no in-game footage is available at this time.”
Alongside the new game, Game Science teased that DLC for Black Myth: Wukong might also be in development with the studio telling fans “the westward journey won’t end here”.
Game Science’s follow-up for its Chinese soulslike Black Myth: Wukong was previously leaked by a surprise trademark. After teasing the upcoming game on social media, fans have discovered a trademark for Black Myth: Zhongkui online.
Discovered by MP1ST, the trademark for the Black Myth follow-up was filed earlier today ahead of the title’s Gamescom showing.
In Chinese mythology, Zhongkui, or Zhong Kui, is a powerful deity that is known for battling powerful ghosts and spirits to protect the ancient emperor. The mythological character is also depicted in some volumes of Journey to the West, the story that Black Myth: Wukong is an adaptaton of, and is often depicted as a powerful warrior.
