Game Science’s Black Myth Wukong may not have won Game of the Year in 2024, but the Chinese soulslike certainly made an impact.
As an adaptation of classic Chinese literature icon Jounrey to the West, the game saw the titular Sun Wukong clash with a slew of mythological characters. However, some of the story’s missing characters appear to be making their debut.
Black Myth: Wukong DLC teased
In a post on social media, developer Game Science teased a new expansion, DLC or update for the action game that shows characters missing from the base game.
While the developers didn’t outright state what their plans are for the game, the social media tease explains that something is planned to be revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live ceremony.
“Destined Ones, Game Science will be joining this year’s Gamescom Opening Night Live,” the developer confirmed. “The show kicks off at 8:00 p.m. (CEST) on August 19, and we look forward to seeing you there.”
The post is accompanied by an image of mythical creatures and a sentence from the story, which roughly translates to: “The extraordinary is ordinary in this world; ‘gods and devils’ often wear respectable attire.”
Finally, the image also has a watermarked date tucked away in the bottom-right corner. In the corner, the image has the date “2025. 08. 20.” This date is the day just after Opening Night Live, teasing a midnight launch for new content.
It’s not known just how much content will be added or in what form, but it certainly seems that Game Science is releasing something of substance to Black Myth: Wukong. On the other hand, the team could just be teasing the game’s Xbox Series release date, which would admittedly be less exciting.
Nevertheless, Black Myth: Wukong is back in the limelight, and we’re excited to see more.
