In a blog post, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson shared information on the studio’s upcoming ambitions and revealed that several ‘super-secret’ projects are in the pipeline (via PCGamesN).
Anthem’s Cataclysm events were met with a mixed reception, and Hudson acknowledged that the sci fi shooter still needs a few more tweaks before it reaches its full potential. ‘We have plans for those more fundamental improvements, but they’ll take time,’ Hudson said. ’While the team works towards the longer-term vision of the game, they will also continue to deliver updates to features and content. I believe in Anthem and would love to see its world grow, evolve, and thrive for years to come.’
Hudson recently visited its studio in Austin, Texas, to check up on the Star Wars: The Old Republic Onslaught DLC update. It’s coming along nicely. He called it an ‘ambitious update’ with a new narrative taking place across two new planets, and a return to Corellia. Star Wars: The Old Republic released in 2011, and the Austin team will also deliver an updated itemisation system to the game.
In a paragraph subtitled ‘Other Stuff Going On’, Hudson revealed that BioWare are working on several unannounced projects. ‘I wish I could tell you more about them, but they’re mostly super-secret right now,’ he stated. ‘I can say however that one of our projects has a large and growing team in Edmonton working through pre-production, and based on the progress I’m seeing, I can confirm that indeed the Dread Wolf rises.’ Nope, BioWare has not diversified into a wildlife conservation trust. This is Dragon Age 4, which was last seen at The Game Awards last year. The fact that Hudson is confident enough to cryptically hint at the latest entry to the fantasy series is a sign that development must be smooth sailing at the moment.
Hudson closed the post with the news that BioWare is recruiting for new positions in Austin and Edmonton. Recently, lead producer for Anthem Ben Irving departed BioWare for an ‘exciting opportunity at another gaming company’, and Mike Gamble, Mark Darrah, and Jonathan Warner left the Anthem project earlier this year. It’s heartening that these setbacks have not discouraged BioWare’s current ambitions, and we might even see something of Dragon Age 4 very soon.
Anthem is currently available for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4, and the Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Onslaught DLC will release on October 22.
