BioShock creator Ken Levine’s new studio has been revealed to be Ghost Story, a Boston-area development studio which describes itself as being “dedicated to making immersive story driven games for gamers that like a challenge”.

Ghost Story was co-founded by twelve former Irrational Games developers – the studio closed in 2014 – including creative director Ken Levine, art director Shawn Robertson, and executive producer Don Roy.

An FAQ reveals the studio’s first game is “a new immersive sci-fi game with RPG elements,” which is “still in the early stages of production”.

Job listings also indicate the game will be an FPS set in a semi open world, built on Unreal Engine 4. There’s also a requirement of having shipped triple A titles in the past.

The FAQ also made it clear that the team is not working on a new BioShock title, but noted that despite shutting down, the Irrational Games social media accounts remain active as many members of the Ghost Story team still enjoy interacting with the BioShock community.

Interestingly, technical lead Jeremy Carson states: “We are in such a fortunate situation – to be working on a new IP, on a small team of highly experienced developers, with strong direction and with the backing of a well-established company, we are truly in a unique position to explore a new idea.”

That well-established company is in fact Take-Two which actually filed a trademark for Ghost Story back in October 2016, which at the time many believed could be the title of a new game.
