PopCap Games has announced the development of Bejeweled Blitz LIVE, due for release in Q1 2011.
The game is said to include the same fast paced 60-second action found in the Facebook version of Blitz. New to the XBLA title is a 16-player simultaneous Party Mode and a head-to-head Battle mode playable over Xbox LIVE.
As well as classic play, Blitz will include the all-new Twist variety, introduced in PC title Bejeweled Twist. The biggest new feature is Friendscore, which combines your scores with your Xbox LIVE friends and pits you against other groups of friends.
While Blitz is a great game and an excellent addition to XBLA, we’d have preferred a port of Bejeweled 3. Blitz on PC and iPhone were linked heavily to Facebook, and that connection seems to be missing from the XBLA version.
Friendscore is also a bit of an oddity, presumably favouring the biggest groups – although Xbox LIVE has a limit of 100 friends. Wouldn’t an average of the scores within each group have been better?
