DICE and EA have officially pulled the wraps off Battlefield 5, confirming the upcoming shooter will take place during World War II, and will not be jumping on the battle royale bandwagon.
Fortunately, there's no sign of any Premium Pass either, with DICE revealing it wants everyone to be able experience the game's content without putting them behind a cash barrier.
That's not to say this is just a reskinned version of Battlefield 1 set in WWII. For one, Battlefield V supports a new co-op mode called Combined Arms, as well as a sprawling post-launch live service known as Tides of War.
This is essentially DICE's way of keeping things fresh in the months after launch, with new events, challenges, and rewards that can be hoovered up, resulting in a constantly evolving game. Meanwhile, War Stories, the acclaimed single-player offering from Battlefield 1, makes a return here with what the devs call 'untold sides of the conflict' focusing on events in places Norway, Rotterdam and North Africa.
Multiplayer is also jam-packed with the usual fan-favourite modes, including the massive 64-player Conquest mode, while we're told Grand Operations — which forms part of Tides of War — offers a dynamic, multi-part mission set that allows players to relive key historical battles from the conflict.
Battlefield V is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19, with the Deluxe Edition allowing you to get in on the action slightly earlier from October 16.
There's also an Open Beta in the pipeline, though no further details were confirmed at the time.
