Battlefield V developer DICE has defended its decision to include female soldiers in the upcoming World War II shooter, after pockets of fans on social media slammed the game for not being 'historically accurate.'

It seems some people were especially miffed that Battlefield V's cover art features a women front and centre, while female soldiers play an active role in the game as a fully playable force for the first time in the franchise.

This resulted in #notmybattlefield becoming a thing on Twitter following the game's reveal.

However, DICE head honcho Oskar Gabrielson made it clear that these features are here to stay. Furthermore, he reminded people that, above all else, Battlefield is about one thing: Fun.

Battlefield V is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19. The game will see the return of Battlefield 1's celebrated War Stories campaign and introduces plenty of new features, such as the cooperative-based Combined Arms and the post-launch Tides of War.
